Martin Bowlback Mandolin
This is a very sweet sounding mandolin. The Martin Bowlback mandolin is ideal for classical pieces and ragtime styles, popular around the turn of the last century.
CF Martin made Italian-style bowlbacks, as well as pioneering his flat back version. In around 1898, he started making bowlbacks, but stopped production we think, some time in the 1920s.
Inside the body of the instrument is the stamped serial number 9438. The mandolin therefore dates to 1921 as the year of its production. Dating of this instrument can be cross-checked through serial number decoder.
Impressed factory stamp to back of headstock, made in the USA.
