Stewart Openback Fretless Banjo
The Stewart openback fretless banjo is a piece of history because so many of these had frets added during the banjo boom of the 20s.
Still in its original state, this banjo is not for the faint hearted and needs to be respected.
The friction violin style ebony pegs can work well with slack tunings, that were so often used – probably as much as anything to avoid breaking strings! However, tuned down to D, it has a great thumping tone. Calfskin head, so beware of extreme temp changes.
