The Gold Star GE-1Â is the latest model openback from Saga Music California and the requirements of a traditional clawhammer player are fully catered for in their GE-1 Old Time Prospector. Firstly the GE-1 has a neck scoop and why so many openback banjos don’t have one is a mystery.
The paddle headstock is a nice touch with really good planetary tuners fitted. The GE-1 has a soft satin finish with just a simple star motif on the headstock.
Other nice features include a fibre skin head and tailpiece which is an old style no knot design.
The hardware on the GE-1 is all good quality which include tuners, tension ring, lugs, brackets and metal plating.
