Beard Deco Phonic Model-57

It would be hard to question Paul Beard’s reputation as one of the finest makers of resonator guitars in the US today. The Deco-Phonic Model 57’s sheer volume and deep tone is something seldom heard from a lap-style resonator guitar. The cone does play a part in the sound but Beard guitars have gone a lot deeper into how these instruments work.

If the cone is the “speaker” then the body is the speaker cabinet and both play a role in the sound.

The Deco Phonic® Model-57 features a triple-spun Legend cone and has a Finnish birch veneer body. The Model 57 comes with a Fishman pick-up fitted at their workshop.

Jerry Douglas was certainly an early fan of Paul Beard’s instruments and used one on many of his early recordings. He may well be partly responsible for their successes in the other fields of music that he has explored in the last few decades.
