Guild OM-120 Mahogany Guitar

In the last few years there has been more all mahogany guitars on the market. Martin offered them as a cheaper alternative but now players have realised that mahogany guitars also provide a distinctive tone that could be described as mellow.

This small body OM (orchestra model) is an ideal size for sitting down at home and enjoying. It’s not as loud as a spruce top but who needs that when you have fingers on steel anyway ?

Guild often fly under the radar so it’s no surprise when younger customers do not recognise such an iconic american brand that have been building guitars since the early fifties and have turn out some classic acoustic and electric guitars. The early successes for Guild was with the acoustic folk musicians of the sixties possibly due to their price being a little more affordable than other big brands. The first chords played at Woodstock in 1969 were on a Guild D-40 by Richie Havens. We have a D-40 in the shop and it’s sits very well beside anything else you care to mention.

They have also made some fine electrics that were in the hands of players Jerry Garcia, Muddy Waters and even our very own Ross Hannaford used a Guild Thunderbird during his Daddy Cool days.

A notable fact regarding Guild is that during the seventies, instrument specialists agree that the larger companies suffered with quality issues but Guild never did, maybe being a little smaller they could handle the economic pressure all businesses were under.
