More details about Altamira M01F Gypsy Jazz Guitar
The Altamira M01F Gypsy Jazz Guitar is a slighly less common Selmer style guitar, it’s known as the Di Mauro Model. The F-holes and spruce top gives it a very vintage look and a punchy tone that is highly desirable in the Gypsy Jazz music. As it is with all these Selmer style guitars the solid spruce top is lightly flexed over the body. This creates a natural arch that otherwise would have to be hand carved like in the old Gibsons archtops. The concept of the archtop is a very old one, it really goes back to Stradivari and violin design. The arch is able to withstand more downward force that a flat top and so tighter tunings were possible. Tighter tunings generally can produce more volume from any instrument but there is a trade off and so balance to be acheived.
Selmer guitar are legendary for their volume and projection and the flexed arch top is one of the secrets
